Monday 30th Interest Fair 6:00-7:30

Field trip Wednesday the 2nd- Iceskating and ballgame,

         *remember kids need to have tall socks for iceskates.

         *please consider sunscreen as we will be outside for lunch in the park

           and for the ballgame!

         *all school rules and dress code apply on field trips and no electronics

           are allowed

         *I have onlly had 2 kids order a school lunch, so remember to pack a

           lunch to send!

Its MAP week!!!!

Tuesday we will do the math portion and Wednesday we will do the communication arts portion.  I feel our kids are well prepared.  Please make sure your child gets a good nights sleep, has something to eat for breakfast, and is AT SCHOOL!

I took all 4 classes to the library today (Monday) so each child should have a book to read.  I have encouraged them also to bring things to work on during the "down time" of testing, such as crossword puzzles or maze books.

We are continuing our poetry unit and the kids are having fun with this! Their poetry packets will be on display during Fine Arts night April 30th.

4th quarter progress reports will be sent home with your child on April 24th.

We have been working hard planning a fun field trip for our kids, more information will be coming home soon!

Test taking tips:

Read EVERY question twice, make sure you understand the question.

Read ALL the options before selecting

Eliminate answers that don't make sense

Do not leave anything blank!

This week we are beginning our poetry unit! The kids really end up enjoying this creative time.  They continue to amaze me each year with their wonderful, creative abilities and we really end up having fun with words!  We will spend about 2 weeks with this and will also be reviewing/ preparing for MAP.

MAP testing is Tuesday April 17th-math portion, Wednesday 18th Communication Arts portion.

Please ask your kids if they are needing to re-stock on any school supplies, and as always, let me know if you need help with this!

Welcome Back!!! Looks like Spring is here!

   I spent my Spring break in Omaha and had some very special time with family and friends, as I hope each of you did as well.  This week we will take it easy and return to our small reading groups.  We will be gearing up very soon to prepare for our MAP testing, although I feel we do this the entire year.  The kids' Black History projects are looking great and I am displaying as many as our hall way will hold! If you get a chance, come see the hard work of our kids!

The kids have been working hard on their research projects! On Monday I showed them how to organize their notes, and continue to have resources available to them in class. Projects are due Thursday OR Friday. The black hisotry vocab and people pages are due Thursday. They have had this for a couple weeks.

Reminders:

*fundraising info is coming home TODAY (Tuesday)

*grades go home after Spring break

We have been researching for our black history projects this week. I explained our process and our goals of this project in the letter I sent home last Thursday. Ive reminded kids to let me know if they need help getting a poster for their project, and I will be happy to get one for them! There will be no spelling this week as we are focusing on our projects!

On Wednesday kids received a list of possible canidates for our Black History project.  They are to select 3 they are interested in and we will sign up on Thursday, the 23rd. No two people in any class can do the same person. Right now, I do not want kids doing ANYTHING outside the classroom on this project. Again, my goal is for them to learn the process and we will walk through this TOGETHER here at school. We will begin research Monday, the 27th.

Tomorrow we will review bibliography forms and notetaking so they will be prepared on Monday. Kids will receive daily research points.

We have met is small groups this week, and kids have Job 8 due on Friday.

There is no spelling this week.

This week we will finish the book, Through My Eyes, by Ruby Bridges.  We will then watch the movie. The kids will be given vocab on Tuesday. We will begin our research project next week. There will be no spelling this week.

Reminder: Valentines party is Tuesday. There is no school Friday, the 17th or Monday the 20th. Enjoy the long weekend!

Our class party will be on Valentine's Day, Tuesday the 14th, at the end of the day. Kids can bring Valentines if they wish, I just ask if they bring one, they bring one for everyone. We have 25 kids in our class. Kids may also bring boxes if they wish, some do and some dont at this age. We will have a class meeting this week to figure out what the kids would like to do for their party. ie: pizza, movie, candy,????
